Roman Mosaic Edifice Constanta
Located on the southern slope of the Constanta peninsula and oriented to the commercial port of Constanta , is a very valuable present urban area identified in the list of Historic Monuments, part of the archaeological site "The ancient city of Tomis." Its uniqueness, valued by the restoration and protection works in the second half of last century, represents a pole of attraction with high potential gains in the current context of international public interest for cultural tourism.
Developed on four terraces descending to the ancient port, the construction were intended to complete the commercial and civilian port services and storage facilities, ensured baths, places of worship in the lower basilica and representative public spaces on the upper level - great room with decorative flooring which was recovered, restored and put into the current value of the mosaic fragment.
The interventions are focused on three main areas: restoration and rehabilitation of existing buildings, remodeling and re-conformation by functional means, proposed work to the building museum complex, rehabilitation Roman mosaic fall into two main categories of interventions, one in the main building, consisting of: rehabilitation works, expansion of the structure (restoration, rehabilitation, construction of warehouses and building ruins preserved in situ, works to strengthen the protection structure of reinforced concrete frame, the extension and completion of the structure with metal spatial system two levels) and work of refunctionalisation (spatial interior and exterior restoration, rehabilitation, building components artistic works protection against aggressive environmental factors, work planning and facilities at the current requirements for major public spaces - meetings for diverse public events, related activities, commerce, etc. - as the basis functions), and the other at the level of the archaeological park restoration works for the existing conserved open ruins (port construction ruins: clearance of unwanted vegetation and various warehouses, relocation of displaced original parts in completion to existing walls, and specific conservation treatments , original stone elements - relocation to highlight their value, protective treatments) and also landscaped work and leisure (pedestrian movement transit and recreational - paved walkways, rest rooms, monumental staircase, plantings, etc.).
Functional development purpose is attracting a wider audience in the building area by diversifying activities, from the current one, a museum of an ancient vestige, strictly put into the mainly seasonal tourist circuit, to the complex and complementary functions of a major cultural center as well as extended run time of an activity that may take place throughout the year. At the same time, the offer of an interactive and permanent cultural activities held in an representative area, based on a coherent and consistent cultural management plan , extend the attractiveness and addressability to wider circles of interested public.
The logical consequence is the rising of the functional and economic share of the investment in the cultural system of the local area, with multiple benefits for the community, including the revitalization and modernization of municipal infrastructure.
